You are about to become a mother.

People will congratulate you. They will ooh and ahh. They will tell you that pregnancy is a precious time, that a mother’s love is something that you cannot quite explain.

They won’t tell you this:

Pregnancy can also be confusing and emotional.

Childbirth can seem daunting and insurmountable.

Worries about healing and postpartum recovery can feel immense.

You might feel alone.

I did.

Despite working as a health reporter, I never felt more in the dark than when I was pregnant. The emotions confused me. The bodily changes discouraged me. I didn’t like being pregnant. I wondered:

What kind of mother would that make me?

But I didn’t dare utter those words aloud.

The truth is, my feelings were normal.
The perinatal period of pregnancy, postpartum, and new motherhood is monumental. Research suggests that the adult female brain never changes more significantly than when you become a mother.

Yet, despite this enormity of change, we all-too-often approach pregnancy and motherhood with narrow congratulatory messages. We don’t talk about or prepare for the things that many of us, universally, experience. Hemorrhoids. Heartburn.
Peri bottles. Tears. Fears.

Dear Sunday does.

We provide empowering resources and community to guide you through the four trimesters of pregnancy and beyond.

We provide the information that we want our daughters to know about pregnancy, postpartum, and new motherhood.

I started Dear Sunday for my daughter, Sunday.

Becoming a mother changed my life. It introduced me to a level of love I never knew possible. It gave me my purpose. But not without struggle.

It’s time to change the way we talk about this life-changing year so that moms can step into their power.
